Today I tried my hand at oil paints again. I had muddled around with some 10 year old tubes of paint a while back but they were too dry to really do anything with. After plunking down a pretty penny I came home with a set of tubes of Utrecht artist grade oil paints in the following colors. And man are they vibrant:

I bought and used the following colors: burnt sienna, burnt umber, quinacridone red, ultramarine blue, pthalo blue, and hansa yellow, and titanium white. So 7 colors, pretty limited, which is how I like it. I really like finishing a painting in one sitting, so I used liquin original to speed the drying process between layers. It was a little smelly for my tastes, so I’m going to try some Gamblin odorless medium next for indoor painting anyway.

I do really like the ability to blend on the canvas, which is much harder with acrylics.
